Maryland Celebrates Youth Art Month
Youth Art Month (YAM), sponsored by the National Art Education Association has been held each March since 1961 and is a national celebration of art and art education. Thousands of U.S. schools participate, often with involvement of art museums and civic organizations. This year the theme is The Power of Art.
YAM exists to recognize art as a necessity for the full development of a better quality of life, provides opportunities for students to join in creative art learning, and to foster community understanding and interest in art.
The Maryland Art Education Association sponsored a flag design contest for YAM — receiving more than 100 entries from across the state. The grand prizewinner is Mariya Occorso from Parkville High School in Baltimore County. |
