Maryland Fleet Week and High Flying Air Shows

On the hunt for family fun? Set your sights high this October as Maryland Fleet Week and Air Show Baltimore is in the flight line. First up, the inaugural Maryland Fleet Week comes to Baltimore October 10-17, bringing more than a dozen Navy ships to the Inner Harbor, along with the commissioning of the USS Zumwalt, the most advanced ship ever built. The accompanying airshow will get your pulse pounding with demonstrations by the U.S. Navy’s Blue Angels, the Royal Canadian CF-18 Demo Team and the GEICO Skytypers, plus air exhibits at Martin State Airport. Then head to the NAS Patuxent River Air Expo in St. Mary’s for more aerial action including F-22 demonstrations and much, much more. Go to the Maryland Fleet Week Website for more info.

The “R’s” Have it -- October Oysters Are Here

The 50th annual U.S. Oyster Festival is October 15-16 in St. Mary’s. Don’t miss the crowning of King Oyster, or the heated competition in the National Oyster Shucking Championships, plus seafood, beer tastings and more. But that’s not all! Crabtoberfest in Havre de Grace opens the month on October 1st, Waldorf throws its own Oyster Festival on the 8th, and Tilghman Island Day is the 15th. Or just head to your favorite nearby crabhouse or oyster bar for plump Maryland oysters and fat, late-season crabs. Get the details and more ideas on our seafood page.
